Newspaper article titled I'm a Kiwi. There is a comical illustration of a man in soldiers' uniform with his mouth open and music notes coming out if it.

I'm a Kiwi

An Australian Kiwi is a bird without wings. Men identified with the aviation service who were known as “ground aces” because of their non-flying activities were known a Kiwis. Here’s the “Song of the Kiwi.”

Oh, I don’t have to [fight] like the infantry Fight like the cavalry, Fight like the artillery, Oh, I don’t have to fly over Germany, For I’m a Kiwi, I’m a Kiwi, I’m a Kiwi, Oh, I don’t have to fight like the infantry, Fight like the cavalry, Fight like the artillery, Oh, I don’t have to fly over Germany, For I’m a Kiwi.

By this time, more than likely, you have suspected that the tune of the foregoing is none other than “The Old Grey Mare.” Just so, and the song writers have gone further and fixed up another spasm that has to do with the kaiser in this fashion:

The doggone kaiser ain’t what he used to be, Ain’t what he used to be, Ain’t what he used to be, The doggone kaiser ain’t what he used to be, Twenty years ago, Twenty years ago, Twenty years ago, The doggone kaiser ain’t what he used to be, Ain’t what he used to be, Ain’t what he used to be, The doggone kaiser ain’t what he used to be, Twenty years ago.
